Cool iOS concept.

Back when I had a jailbroken iPhone, one of my favorite Cydia tweaks was a hack called Switchy, which came to life based upon an initial forum post mocking up a more advanced app switcher for iOS. I’m hopeful, then, that the same will prove true for this new switcher concept posted over the weekend, which might be the best looking, most attractive and most functional app switcher we’ve seen yet. QRmovie puts adaptive, animated QR codes in film

The very mention of QR codes will likely incite groans in the least cynical of technophiles. What once was a tangible and exciting example of two-worlds colliding, bringing the physical world into the digital realm with funky barcodes and smartphones, now illustrates what can happen when we’re not really quite sure how to implement a fledgling technology. Football teams with QR codes on their shirts? I rest my case.

Super Cool!!!

The design thinking behind the new Disney.com

I’d like to mention that the Matterhorn team, our previous codename, is the finest team I’ve ever worked with. I’ve never met more talented, driven individuals, and that without our tight bond this project could never have happened. I should also mention that these views are my own and not those of Disney, you know how that goes. Please read and get a glimpse behind the curtain of how we made it happen.

Bootstrap separates from Twitter

Bootstrap was unveiled in August 2011, promising a toolkit that, according to designer Mark Otto, featured “a small footprint and a compelling visual design, which developers and designers can appreciate”. February 2012 saw the toolkit hit 2.0, which the team treated as a completely new framework, to “overhaul our documentation, rewrite nearly every component, and add some new features based on community feedback".

Common portfolio mistakes (and how to fix them)

As the curator of Folyo, I see a lot of different portfolios go by. And I can’t help but notice the same patterns of bad design cropping up time and again. Being designers, we should be aware of how much look and feel can influence the way content is perceived. Yet for some reason we’re happy to forget all about this when it comes to displaying our own work.
