Where did the Tweetbot for Mac Alpha go?

As some of you may have already noticed the download link for the Tweetbot for Mac alpha no longer works. Twitter’s latest API Changes means now we have a large but finite limit on the number of user tokens we can get for Tweetbot for Mac. We’ve been working with Twitter over the last few days to try to work around this limit for the duration of the beta but have been unable to come up with a solution that was acceptable to them. Because of this we’ve decided its best for us to pull the alpha.

Tim Cook tells Apple employees that today’s victory ‘is about values’

Following Apple’s big win in U.S. court today against Samsung, Apple CEO has sent a memo response to Apple corporate employees. The statement is reminiscent of Apple PR head Katie Cotton’s statement from earlier today, but adds some other new, personal touches as Apple’s CEO (who celebrates one year on the job today). Apple now worth 30 times Dell’s market value

On October 6, 1997, in response to the question of what he’d do if he was in charge of Apple, Dell founder and CEO Michael Dell stood before a crowd of several thousand IT executives and answered flippantly, “What would I do? I’d shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders.” A little more than a month later, on November 10, 1997, new Apple Interim CEO (iCEO) Steve Jobs responded, speaking in front of an image of Michael Dell’s bulls-eye covered face, “We’re coming after you, you’re in our sights.” Read more at http://macdailynews.com/2012/08/22/apple-now-worth-30-times-dells-market-value/#lvQrHuWxe2v9qmzF.99

In your Face!

First employee or co-founder?

If you’re good at what you’re doing and you have friends in the start-up scene then there is a chance that at some point you will be offered the chance to join a newly minted company. Imagine two guys, one has the idea for a product, the second can sell it. They incorporate, maybe they have a bit of savings, maybe they have a third guy with some money as an initial investor. Now all they need is to get a guy to build the thing.

Flash for Android Officially Gone from Google Play

Adobe officially pulled Flash for Android from the Google Play store on Wednesday, all but ending the dream of mobile Flash as a viable platform. The move was announced on an Adobe blog post on June 28th, but Flash remained available on Google Play until Wednesday.

Lantronix xPrintServer Turns All Your Home Printers Into AirPrint Printer

For the home user, the home version is way better than the office original. For one, it costs just $100, not $150. For another it supports USB printers (the pro version is networked-printer only), and it also allows you to share those USB printers over the network with a PC or Mac. Finally a neat solution.

OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion: the Ars Technica review

Apple's traditional desktop computing business has suffered many indignities over the past decade. Once Apple's flagship product line, the Mac first found itself playing second fiddle to the iPod—a mere music player—in the early 2000s. Today, matters are worse; on a graph of Apple's revenues, the Mac now appears as a thin strip of earth while iOS devices are the mountain that sits upon it.

Thanks John!

Installing Mountain Lion: Our complete guide

Just a year after Lion (OS X 10.7), Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) is here. And just like Lion, getting Mountain Lion is as easy as downloading an installer from the Mac App Store—a few clicks (and some patience) is all it takes to install OS X 10.8 over your existing copy of Lion or Snow Leopard. But that doesn’t mean you should make the jump without any preparation, or that there are no important decisions to make along the way.

Getting Started With Dreamweaver CS6 Fluid Grids

The disruption was “Responsive Web Design” and “Mobile First” which were first presented to an unsuspecting web industry in 2010. Think about it, the concepts of Mobile First and Responsive Design really weren’t solidly on your radar until a year or so ago.  Then, disruption happened.

Apple Confirms OS X Mountain Lion Launching Tomorrow

overview_hero1.jpg
As part of Apple’s Q3 earnings press release today, CEO TIm Cook has announced that OS X Mountain Lion will be launching tomorrow, available only in the Mac App Store. We’re thrilled with record sales of 17 million iPads in the June quarter,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We’ve also just updated the entire MacBook line, will release Mountain Lion tomorrow and will be launching iOS 6 this Fall. We are also really looking forward to the amazing new products we’ve got in the pipeline. OS X Mountain Lion is set to cost $19.99, down from the previous $29.99 for OS X Lion and Snow Leopard.

'Sent with Sparrow,' no more

While I congratulate the Sparrow team on moving on to bigger and better projects at Google, one thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth: the fact that the Sparrow team is no longer free to build products for itself. When I last spoke at length with Sparrow founder Dom Leca, he told me about how he left a corporate app-developing world to build something he wanted to use. "To build a better mail," he'd say. Each day Leca and friend / colleague Dinh Viet Hoa set out to build an email app they'd want to use.

Alternative Email Client Sparrow Acquired by Google

Sparrow originally launched on the Mac, but an iPhone version was released earlier this year. Leca also said that Sparrow's products will continue to be made available with "support and critical updates", but Sparrow does not plan to release new features. There's no word whether Push email support -- promised earlier this year -- will make its way to the iOS app or if that has been pushed aside.

Delivering a consistent Twitter experience

Just over two weeks ago, I talked about more interactive experiences within expanded Tweets and how easy it is for users to discover even more great content on Twitter. The technology behind expanded Tweets -- Twitter cards -- gives developers and publishers a way to tell richer stories on Twitter, directly within Tweets and drive traffic back to their sites. Since launch, we've seen great engagement and more than doubled the number of partners that are part of expanded Tweets, and we continue to add more.
